How to Dry an Oak Slab
- 1). Locate an area outside where the oak slabs can sit undisturbed for up to 30 days. Use a covered area, such as a garage or underneath a canopy; a roof is needed to protect the wood from direct sunlight and rainfall.
- 2). Place two oak spacers on the ground. Place them far enough apart so when the oak slab rests on top of them, the slab is evenly supported.
- 3). Place the oak slab on top of the spacers.
- 4). Place two oak spacers on top of the oak slab in the same location as the ones on the ground.
- 5). Place a second oak slab on top of the spacers.
- 6). Repeat this process until the oak slabs are stacked. Do not stack the oak too high; if needed, create two stacks.
- 7). Let the oak dry for four to five weeks.
