Medication Noncompliance After Kidney Transplantation
Medication Noncompliance After Kidney Transplantation
The frequency of medication non-compliance after organ transplantation has been estimated to range from 5% to 43%. Conflicting reports on the causes of medication noncompliance make it difficult to determine the contributing factors that affect compliance. The problem encompasses all age and ethnic groups and may be influenced by health and religious beliefs, social support, disease characteristics, medication adverse effects, and treatment complexity. The impact of the length of treatment after transplant and patients' knowledge about their drug regimens on compliance has not been clearly defined.
The purpose of our study was to identify factors that may affect medication noncompliance in kidney transplant patients, including the duration of treatment and patients' knowledge of medications.
