How to Light Pilot Lights on Gas Log Stoves
- 1). Turn off all electrical power to the stove. Turn the On/Off switch to the "Off" position. If your stove has a thermostat, turn the thermostat to its lowest setting.
- 2). Open the access panel, typically located near the bottom of the stove.
- 3). Push in on the gas control knob and turn it to the "Off" position. Wait five to 10 minutes for any residual gas in the stove to dissipate.
- 4). Remove the front door on your stove. All stoves have slightly different procedures for removing the front door, so refer to your owner's manual for specific instructions. Typically, you can lift the door up and off of the stove. Locate the pilot light port, typically next to the main burner.
- 5). Push in on the gas control knob and turn it to the "Pilot" position. Continue holding the knob in while you light the pilot.
- 6). Light the pilot. If your stove has a red pilot ignition button, press on that to ignite the pilot light. Otherwise, hold a lit match over the pilot light port for a few seconds until it lights. Hold the gas control knob in for 60 seconds after the pilot has been lit.
- 7). Release the gas control knob and replace the stove's front door. Turn the gas control knob to the "On" position. Replace the access panel. Turn the On/Off switch to the "On" position. Turn the power back on to the stove and set the thermostat at your desired setting.
