What Is Better: Vista Premium or Ultimate?
- CNET Reviews gave both Vista Premium and Vista Ultimate three and a half stars out of a possible five. However, of the four categories that CNET looked at, service and support, design, features and performance, Vista Ultimate scored higher in the features category. While Vista Premium earned a 7.0 in features, Vista Ultimate earned a 9.0. Otherwise, both operating systems earned 7.0 in design, 8.0 in performance and 7.0 in service and support.
- Unlike Vista Home Premium, Vista Ultimate includes the Windows Complete PC Backup and Restore program, which protects computers against hardware failures. The program backs up -- or makes copies of -- all of a computer's software components, including its operating system, applications, files and data. You can manage all of the components that you want Vista Ultimate to protect in a single, virtual location: the Windows Backup and Restore Center. So if you are adamant about protecting software in the event of a hardware failure, Windows Vista Ultimate is the better option.
- For the PC user who regularly scans and faxes documents, such as contracts, photographs or other images, Vista Ultimate is the better operating system because Vista Ultimate includes Windows Fax and Scan. Fax and Scan is a program that allows users to control the scanning, faxing and receiving of documents via a computer's interface, provided that computer is hooked up to either a fax modem or fax server, when sending and receiving faxes, or a scanner, when scanning documents.
- In contrast to Vista Home Premium, Vista Ultimate allows users to access business applications and resources remotely using Remote Desktop Connection. Remote Desktop Connection is a program that allows a user to connect to a remote or host computer via a client computer, which is the computer that the user is sitting at. Using Vista Ultimate's Remote Desktop Connection, a user can access the information on a business computer located in a remote office while sitting at a client computer in a home office. For this reason, Vista Ultimate is the better operating system for businesspeople.
