I Don"t Love You Anymore, Where Do We Go From Here

103 7
The ride home was quiet.
During the evening, Samantha and Roy talked from their hearts, identified issues, and talked about solutions.
They addressed problems in their marriage, more importantly, they agreed on the one fact holding the key to a solution.
The silent drive home allowed time to process the evening concerns, agreements and to recognize that losing their partner was not an answer.
Once at home things were awkward.
The one thing they did not discuss all evening is where Roy would sleep tonight.
Sam smoothed the silence, "Want to catch the news?" Reaching for the controller Roy found a note.
He read it handing it to Sam.
She read it staring at the paper for a moment then handed it back to Roy.
The note addressed to both from their children asked if anything was wrong, they did not know what, but loved their parents anyway.
"Can you believe that?"   Sam really could.
Parents are sensitive to their children's needs in many ways, mostly concerning their health or emotional state.
What most parents do not realize is how much information they give their children without saying a word.
The weather came, went as the eleven o'clock schedule began.
Neither said anything just looked at the TV.
Occasionally glancing at each other, they remained silent.
Talking through a problem is often a wonderful way to identify then fixing a problem.
Other times just sitting in close proximity to your partner and sharing silently solves a problem.
"You ready for bed?" Sam asked.
 Roy said he was.
Sam got up, took his hand, and led him to the bedroom.
There was no further discussion; it was as it should be, though not as it might be later.
The next morning greeted both with busy schedules.
Roy was off to his office and Sam made calls trying to arrange meetings with buyers, mortgages reps and a seller.
Moving a large commercial location is not as easy as it was last year, it has been tight for six months.
All day while carrying out her business, her thoughts went to the children but primarily on Roy.
He seemed so sincere last night that he really understood her hurt, fear, and loneliness created by the consuming nature of his work.
She really wanted to believe he could change, and that he would change but recent history made it difficult to believe.
The bottom line for Sam was she wanted a certain life, the style life they shared for so many years before it was lost.
It was not the money; it was Roy's drive to succeed that he placed before her and the family.
On the drive home, Sam recalled the events of the last two days.
She wanted to make sure all the things she and Roy agreed on would fix things.
1.
She told Roy that she did not love him anymore due to the way they were living without a family life.
Maybe she should not have let things go so far, before saying anything but it is what she did.
2.
After digesting those devastating words from Sam, Roy understood the problem and had to decide what to do.
Would he be able to meet Sam and the family needs or was his current priority to business remains as his top purpose.
3.
Roy and Sam began a dialog soon after Sam's proclamation.
They talked openly about concerns, desires, and bringing those interests together.
4.
Sam felt comfortable that she and Roy could solve the problems but wanted to see how long Roy would really place his family first.
The prior evening Sam decided she would give it some time to see if things changed.
 She really hoped they would.
Roy was her heart but he had to give it back to her.
She would wait to see, he needed to commit with acts not words.
The day went by quickly with Sam buried under so many last minute details she did not pull into the driveway until 5:45.
It was unusual for her to have to park around another car in the drive but tonight she did.
 Roy was home.
Her next surprise, all the family was in the kitchen making dinner.
Sam smiled knowing one night does not make a story but it is a start.
A burst of interest to solve the problem by one partner will not solve the problems.
It must be real, it must be everyday and directed at restoring the faith of both in each other as a partner.
