DIY: Easy Budget Headboard

104 9
    • 1). Cut a piece of plywood or hardwood into a scroll design with a jig saw and paint it for an easy and inexpensive headboard. Finish the headboard with a clear sealant. The wood should be 6 inches wider than the mattress and twice as tall as the height you want the headboard to be. Attach the headboard with flush mounts so that half of the height is below the level of the mattress.

    • 2). Cut a solid wood door so that its length, when on its side, is at least as wide and up to 6 inches wider than your mattress. Fill in any screw holes along the hinge side with Spackle and sand the entire door. Paint the door. If it has raised panels, you may paint them a contrasting color. Hang the door behind your bed with flush mounts. The door hole should be under the bed. The door should hang so that at least half is below the mattress.

    • 3). Mount vintage handkerchiefs in matching frames and hang them in a block behind your bed for a simple headboard. The frames should reach about 3 inches beyond each edge of the mattress and be at least three layers high. Place the frames no more than 1 inch apart. Make sure there is an equal amount of space on all sides of the frames.
