Types of Electrical Home Wiring Switches
- Single pole switches are the most basic switch type. Flip it up to turn the light on and down to turn it off.
- Three-way switches give you the ability to control one light or receptacle from multiple locations. These switches come in many shapes and styles, all with the same basic functionality.
- Four-way switches may be used in conjunction with three-way switches when you want to control a light or receptacle from three or more locations.
- Dimmer switches are wired like normal single pole switches. They have the added ability of controlling the brightness of the light.
- Light switches made with built-in timers can turn the lights off after a set amount of time.
- Motion sensor light switches detect the movement of someone entering the room and automatically turn the lights on.
