Medical Lab Schools

      When doctors order laboratory tests such as blood and urine, medical laboratory technicians are responsible for collecting and processing the specimens under established protocols. Medical Technicians and Medical Technologists will have varying levels of education. Technologists are normally required to have a bachelor's degree while a technician may only need a certificate accredited by the NAACLS (National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences). There are online and on-campus schools throughout the country that offer a certificate or degree in laboratory sciences.

    Harrison College

    • Harrison College was founded in 1902 by a school teacher. It is a member of many accreditation councils and strives to maintain a high quality education to its students. There are 13 campuses, a culinary school and an online program. Harrison College offers the Medical Laboratory Technology Associate Degree. This program provides a a thorough curriculum of basic science, math, clinical and technical education and general studies. It is also accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) on the recommendation of the Clinical Laboratory Sciences Programs Review Committee (CLSPRC).

    National College

    • National College offers a diploma and a certificate in Phlebotomy. Students will receive hands-on training in collection, handling, transportation and processing of blood specimens for analysis. The phlebotomy program also trains students in infection control and safety policies and procedures; they will interact with other laboratory and health care personnel. Core courses include: Terminology of Body Support, Phlebotomy Techniques, Systems of Transport and Support, Phlebotomy Directed Practices, Microsoft Office. Both of the certificate and diploma programs will prepare students for employment in hospitals and medical clinics.

    Pima Medical Institute

    • Pima Medical Institute is a vocational school founded in 1972 with its first school in Tucson, AZ. Since then it has grown to include several branches scattered throughout the United States. Its programs are in various medical disciplines and students are provided with an education that expands beyond the classroom to real-world experience.
      Pima offers a short certificate program for its Phlebotomy Technician program. It lasts for the three months. Students receive training in CPR and First Aid, Anatomy and Physiology, Phlebotomy, medical terminology and introduction to laboratory.
