Living Room Design Colors

    Asian

    • Some colors reflect the simplicity of Asian decor. While much of the background colors in Asian-style decorating are neutral, Asian decor doesn't shy away from color. In fact, according to Decor Medley, some of the colors featured in Asian decorating--such as Chinese red and jade green--are deep and vibrant, and black is a common color in some Asian styles as well. A focal wall painted a deep red or green draws the eye to the artwork and accessories featured on it. A black futon with a painted frame offers a dramatic place for relaxing. Accent pieces--like a privacy screen with green bamboo leaves painted on it--provide another way to bring a splash of color to the living room.

    Tuscan

    • The colors of Tuscany bring the loveliness of the Italian countryside into your living room and into your home. The base colors used on the walls typically come from the neutrals category, according to Dream Home Decorating, and include hues like sand or honey beige. Bare stone floors usually feature light colored stone and brick red. Accent colors come into the space on the couch or chairs and on accessories like throw pillows or a wall-hung candelabra; these colors include red, honey yellow and deep Mediterranean blue.

    Shabby Chic White

    • White is the main color of this living room decorating scheme, with accent colors in light pastels like blue, mint green or lavender, according to Romantic Country magazine. White is used almost everywhere---on the slip covers for the couch, as a tablecloth for the dining table and as a main color for items like throw pillows and woven rag throw rugs. Additionally, the white in this style tends to run on the "beat-up" or "shabby" side; meaning, furniture has been antiqued or faux-finished to appear aged. It's not unusual to see white wicker furniture or an antique mirror that's been whitewashed to allow the wood underneath to show through. In fact, in this style, antiqued white is preferable to the pristine white found in settings featuring modern decorating styles. In the shabby chic style, white acts as an effective backdrop for all the pastel colors used with it, because it is technically a neutral color.
