    Arts

    • Tap into your Irish luck at the North Texas Irish Festival held annually at the Fair Park in Dallas. Authentic Irish musicians come from far and wide to play at this festival. Other festivities include horse demonstrations by the Dallas Mounted Police and Celtic Horses including Clydesdales, draft horses and the Irish Sport Horse. Traditional Irish storytellers perform by regaling audiences with Irish stories and folklore handed down from generation to generation. The Dallas Alumni Chapter of Mu Phi Epsilon, an international professional music fraternity, sponsors a concert series on various Saturdays. The concerts begin at 3 p.m. at the J. Erik Jonsson Central Library and admission is free.

    Sports

    • The city of Dallas is a professional sports fans' dream destination. Weekends during the months of October through April are busy at the American Airlines Center, home to the Dallas Mavericks NBA team and NHL's Dallas Stars. Sunday afternoons are alive at Cowboy Stadium where the legendary Dallas Cowboys run the football down the field. Indoor soccer fans can watch FC Dallas pass the ball at Pizza Hut Park, just a 40-minute drive north to Frisco.

    Auto Enthusiasts

    • Each year over a four-day weekend in the spring, more than 400,000 people visit the Dallas Convention Center for the Dallas Auto Show. The show is presented by the Dallas Fort Worth Metropolitan New Car Dealers Association. All of the major car manufacturers including Acura, Toyota, Chevrolet and Volvo bring their new lines of vehicles to wow the crowds. The 2011 show takes place April 7 to 11. As of 2011, ticket prices for adults are $12; kids under 12 are admitted for free. You can stop in at participating dealerships for a $1 off coupon.

    Leisure

    • When the weekend arrives, it's time to take a step back and forget the fast pace of the workweek. A visit to the Dallas Farmers Market is just the place to spend a leisurely weekend afternoon. The market has fresh seasonal produce grown from locally owned certified produce farms, and fresh fruits and vegetables from around the country and Mexico. You can take care of any landscaping needs there as well as there are trees, plants and shrubs for sale. The market is open daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., except for major holidays.
