How to Recover a Lampshade Frame
- 1). Remove the old lampshade from the frame. Cut the shade away from the frame by cutting it in a spot that isn't attached to the frame, grabbing onto the cut portion of the shade and gently pulling it away from the frame.
- 2). Wrap seam tape around each piece of metal in the frame. Affix each end of the tape with textile glue.
- 3). Drape a piece of muslin between two ribs of the lampshade frame. Pin the muslin in place and mark the fabric with chalk where the metal pieces are. Remove the muslin from the lampshade frame and mark it with a 1/4-inch seam allowance on each side and a one-inch seam allowance at the top and bottom.
- 4). Cut the muslin along the marked lines to create a pattern for the rest of the fabric. Using the muslin pattern as a guide, cut out as many pieces of fabric as there are sections on the lampshade frame. Cut out the same number of pieces of lining fabric.
- 5). Pin the pieces of fabric together with the right sides facing, and sew the side seams, leaving 1/4-inch seam allowance. Continue until all the pieces are joined together. Repeat for the lining fabric.
- 6). Turn the fabric right side out and place it over the lampshade frame, lining up the seams with the metal ribs. Hand stitch the seam allowances to the fabric tape wrapped around each lampshade rib.
- 7). Pull the top of the fabric over the top of the lampshade frame and hot glue the fabric to the frame. Pull the bottom of the fabric taut and over the bottom piece of the lampshade frame and hot glue the fabric to the frame. Trim the excess fabric and threads.
- 8). Pin the lining fabric to the wrong side of the lampshade fabric, lining up the seams. Hand sew the seams to the lamp shade's ribs. Fold over the top of the lining to make a clean edge and sew it in place. Create a clean bottom edge the same way.
