Frigidaire Washer Smells Like Mildew
- A mildew problem in the washer drum usually comes from a combination of standing water and soapy residue. If you swipe a clean white cloth inside the drum and it picks up a grayish residue, it's likely mildew. Don't use more detergent than your Frigidaire owner's manual recommends, and use a level to make sure the washer is balanced. A washer that sits at even a slight angle may not drain completely, leaving stagnant water in the drum. To remove a mildew smell from the drum, pour 1 cup bleach into the bleach dispenser and run a hot-water cycle with a cold-water rinse.
- Water tends to pool behind the rubber door seals on front-loading Frigidaire washers, leading to mildew. Pull the seals away from the door and clear away any mildew with a mixture of 1/2 cup bleach and 1 quart water. To prevent mildew around the door, wipe water away from the tops of the seals after completing each load of laundry.
- Leave the door and dispenser open when you're not using your Frigidaire so that you don't trap any moisture inside. Remove clothes from the washer immediately after the cycle is complete so that the washer drum can begin drying.
