How to Install an Inground Basketball System
- 1). Determine where you want to place your basketball hoop. A flat surface such as a driveway is recommended so that participants can dribble the ball freely.
- 2). Dig a two foot by two foot by two foot hole using your shovel.
- 3). Mix the 850 pounds of dry mix concrete following the instructions on the back of the bag.
- 4). Mark your basketball pole 18 inches from the bottom using a marker and a tape measure.
- 5). Fill the hole with concrete and level it off. Spreading it evenly ensures that your pole is placed and centered in the hole so that your basketball hoop will not lean to one side. Once the pole is centered, fill the pole with concrete to ensure stability. Let the concrete dry for two days before attaching the backboard.
- 6). Attach the backboard and rim. Most basketball systems come with the correct nuts, bolts and screws. Using your wrench or screwdriver, line up the appropriate holes and use the correct tool (screwdriver or wrench) to tighten the rim into place.
- 7). Attach the net to the rim. Most rims have hooks that allow a net to be looped through simply. Thread the net loops through the hooks on the rim.
- 8). Climb the ladder and attach the backboard to the basketball pole using the appropriate screws or nuts and bolts. To minimize the chance of injury or broken equipment, do not attempt this step without the help of another person. Tighten the bolts or screws as tightly as possible to ensure that the backboard stays in place or does not fall.
