How to Paint Faux Cobblestones on Concrete
- 1). Use 1-inch, 2-inch and 3-inch strips of tape to make a pattern of irregular shapes on the concrete. The shapes should be about 1 foot in diameter. Press the edges of the tape down into the irregularities in the concrete to help prevent the paint from seeping under the tape.
- 2). Select at least two shades of concrete stain. One shade should be slightly darker than the other. Another shade should have a more yellow tint. If you have a third shade, select a color with more green.
- 3). Pour different amounts of each stain into several disposable plastic cups, so that each cup has a total of about 1/4 cup of stain. Mix the stain well by stirring it with a craft stick. Mix at least seven different colors of stain.
- 4). Pour about a tablespoon of each color of stain on a small disposable plastic plate. Dip the flat end of a stencil brush into the stain on the plate. A stencil brush is a stiff, round brush with a flat end. It is used to apply a light coat of paint, without allowing the stain to seep under the edges of a stencil or tape.
- 5). Stain the spaces between the strips of tape by tapping the flat end of the brush on the concrete. Tap directly up and down; do not brush the brush back and forth. This will keep the stain from seeping under the tape.
- 6). Stain the spaces different colors. Do not stain adjacent spaces the same color. Apply a second coat of stain, if needed.
