How to Remove Brick for Pipe
- 1). Place the pipe flush up against the bricks on the outside of the house. Outline around the pipe with a piece of chalk. Inspect the inside of the house to verify there is nothing at the desired spot that will be damaged during removal of the exterior bricks.
- 2). Attach a metal blade to the angle grinder and cut the mortar joints around the bricks. Cut back and forth to loosen the mortar. Move from side to side holding the grinder with two hands.
- 3). Attach a masonry drill bit to a power drill. Drill every 3 inches into the mortar around each brick. Drill straight through the mortar and into the house. Loosen each brick at the mortar joints.
- 4). Remove the mortar with a hammer and chisel. Move from one brick to the next until the mortar has been chipped away. Hammer the bricks with a mallet. Strike the mallet down hard and knock out all of the bricks in the opening.
- 5). Wipe the excess debris and dirt from the bricks with a clean rag. Set the pipe in the opening to verify that it fits properly into the hole. Chisel out more brick, if necessary.
