Pug, just the name itself evokes the image of a precious little package of joy.
Pugs, or Pug Dogs, or Chinese Pugs (all the same dog) probably originated in China.
They have a short coat, wrinkly skin, a "short" head, and short legs.
They are normally fawn-colored with black markings, especially a "black mask" on their faces.
Pugs are in the "toy" breed category, and can weigh anywhere between 14 and 18 pounds, making them one of the stouter of the toy breeds.
The pug tail is high and very curvy.
These little clowns are a joy to have as part of the family.
Your pet Pug will be fun to watch when they play, and they love as much attention as you can give them.
Unlike most "toy dogs", they are good with children and get along with them splendidly.
Again, they go against the grain when it comes to barking when non-family members come into their territories.
They do not make good guard dogs as they are not big "yappers".
As a matter of fact, they love humans and want to be around them.
Don't think you won't be hearing any sounds emanating from you little angel's mouth, though as Pugs are notorious snorers.
As far as training, it does take a little longer for Pugs to get with the program.
They will eventually catch on to what you want them to do or not do.
Because the shape of their head, they can develop eye problems from scratches to the eye, and entropion, when the eyelid folds inward.
It is usually not a good idea for your pet Pug to be outside in excess heat or humidity.
Their snouts are not built for panting to cool themselves down, so heat can be a real danger for them.
It is important to feed your pet Pug a healthy natural dog food.
Like for all dogs I suggest you make their food at home.
This way you'll know exactly what they are eating and can fix them the healthiest food available.
If you can't make their food then you need to make sure you are buying the healthiest food available.
Stay away from food that contains artificial ingredients that could harm your pet..
Exercise is necessary for all dogs but especially for Pugs.
They shouldn't be overexercised due to them not being able to stand heat as well as other dogs.
Walk them and letting them run around and play on their own should be enough exercise to keep them from becoming obese.
This is important as Pugs are basically inside pets.
Pug Dogs do shed and need a good combing on a weekly basis.
Besides keeping their wrinkles clean, they need a monthly bath and toe nail trim.
Pugs, like some other small-sized breeds can develop, usually anywhere from 6 months to 7 years of age, NME (necrotizing meningoencephalitis), an inflammation of the brain.
This disease has no known causes, and, sadly, no cure at this time.
Also, Pugs usually need assistance in giving birth.
Look online for a variety of natural products that are especially suited to the varied health needs of Pugs.
If you think it is fun to dress up your pet, the Pug is for you.
They don't appear to mind getting made fun of it will make you laugh.
They like to have fun and want you to have fun also.
That is just about the best testimonial a dog could ever have.
Even with the negative aspects the a pet Pug will still be a great choice as a pet.
