TriBeCa is a short form that stands for 'Triangle Below Canal Street' which literally designates the neighborhod's borders. Once home to dusty old warehouses, TriBeCa is now home to one of the most expensive parts of the city.

You can't escape the super expensive rents in this area of the city. Bargains are hard to come by because so many people want to call TriBeCa home. While rents get cheaper the closer you get to Broadway and Chambers Street, it's still not very cheap. If you look closer to Chambers Street and Broadway you'll find that rents are cheaper, but they're still well out of most people's budgets. Because it's so populated with wealthy people, TriBeCa isn't knows as being one of the friendliest places in Manhattan. It also has a bit of an arty vibe, though. TriBeCa is a very safe NYC neighborhood.

Nightlife in TriBeCa is lacking but you can just take a short stroll over to Soho to get your dancing and drinking fix.If you're looking for nightlife then TriBeCa isn't it. But you're in luck because Soho's bustling nightlife is just a five minute walk away. However, some highlights of the TriBeCa bar scene are: the Grace, a chic lounge at 114 Franklin Street, known for its designer cocktails. The Brandy Library on Moore Street caters to a business crowd with gourmet food and a wide selection of - what else? - brandy. B Flat, in the basement of 277 Church, is a popular bar with Japanese food and drinks and a relaxing ambiance.

For outdoor activities, Washington Market Park on Greenwich Avenue and Chambers Street has a playground for kids and benches shaded by trees for grown-ups. There's a playground for kids at Washington Market Park and adults can chill out under the trees. There's also a patch of grass on the waterfront past West Street that's frequented in the summer by sun bathers, frisbee players and joggers.

The 1 train on Franklin Street and the 1/2/3 trains on Chambers Street give good transport access to the area.TriBeCa is well connected with stations on Franklin and Chambers Streets leading to the 1 and 1/2/3 trains respectively. The area is close enough to the Financial District to be able to take advantage of the many transportation options leaving that area.

TriBeCa is probably off-limits to most people who aren't mega rich or have a trust fund. If you are able to live here somehow then you're in luck because it's a lively, vibrant area with loads to do all around you. You'll have an amount of convenience unrivaled anywhere else in New York. There are plenty more affordable options though that will be just as fun to live in and you'll have more money in your pocket to spend on enjoying life in New York.
