Giving children choices can help build their confidence as well learning how to make correct choices.
Say it's very cold outside and your child doesn't want to put on his coat.
You tell him that he has to put on his coat and he then refuses.
Now this is where you give him his choice.
Ask him "Would you like your coat zipped or UN-zipped.
That's his choice.
Not having to wear his coat is not in this equation.
No negotiations about him having to wear the coat.
I hope you're getting how to let your child make a choice but only within the guidelines you set.
Most children don't want to do what they're told to begin with.
Teaching children to follow directions is the fundamental basics of training.
Training is hard work.
You have to stay one or two steps ahead of children.
Especially very young children.
Parents sometime give in way too quickly.
This is what I call "Having A Button".
If a child can figure out if you are going to give them what they want.
They will soon learn "You have a button".
The key is to remember when dealing with children is whatever you are willing to live with is acceptable and whatever you are not willing to live with is not acceptable.
Remember to look for the good in your children.
Be the best parent you can be.
Learn from others as to what works and what doesn't when it comes to parenting.
They didn't come with a handbook with their name on it.
