Hemorrhoid surgery may sound very anguishing for those who do not know how this process is done. Actually, this is true. But to be able to know more and understand how this is done, it is only proper that a discussion on what hemorrhoid is about is provided. Hemorrhoid is a condition wherein the anal canal of the body develops swollen tissues. This proves to be painful for the person but this is not often considered a very dangerous situation. Nevertheless, a hemorrhoid surgery is recommended to those who become victims of sever types of hemorrhoids. It can form inside or outside. Thus, there is an external and an internal hemorrhoid.

There are many causes of hemorrhoid. Primarily, this is brought about by too much pressure in the veins on the pelvic and rectal area. Tissues in the anal canal if filled with blood that help in the smooth exit of stools. If you exert too much pressure on it, then normally they are stretched and thus get swollen. Conditions like constipation and diarrhea may also lead to this condition. Pregnant women often develop this condition since there is constant pressure in their pelvic area. Birthing a baby can thus worsen the condition though. But as already mentioned, hemorrhoid surgery is available for those who want to get rid of hemorrhoids once and for all.

Before hemorrhoid surgery can be done however, a patient is advised to apply home remedies first. This is because, as already mentioned, this process is reserved only for worst cases. Home remedies of hemorrhoid problem includes the intake of over the counter medicines that relieve the pain being felt. These medicines include Acetaminophen (Tylenol), Aspirin and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen (Motrin) and naproxen (Aleve) will stop the swelling and even bleeding. Unlike hemorrhoid surgery, these treatments can be available anytime the pain is felt. Applying ice to the anal area can also help as well as taking a warm bath where the anal canal can be covered.

Hemorrhoid surgery is seldom done in external hemorrhoids. But this is gone through when the hemorrhoids are large enough to cause bother and torture to the patient. The process is often done to people who suffer internal hemorrhoid. Hemorrhoidectomy is another name for hemorrhoid surgery. What is done in this process is that the surgeon puts incision to the tissues involved usually with the use of scalpel. They are then removed with the person under anesthesia and they tear is closed. Once the hemorrhoid surgery is done, the patient is required to take weeks or even months of rest depending on their present condition. Usual side-effects include a sore feeling on the anal area and even bleeding. But these will go away as time goes by.

When you are considering a hemorrhoid surgery, it is better that you have yourself diagnosed first. Ask pertinent questions to the doctor on your other options.  Know the risks too to be prepared and make sure that you can afford the process. Otherwise, you will be forced to resort to home remedies. Professional care and advice as well as proper diagnosis can determine whether you really need a hemorrhoid surgery or not.
