One of the easiest ways to keep a smile is to share a smile with someone else.
Did you know that smiling is contagious and that every time you smile, endorphins are released that boost your mood? Not only that, but smiling has also proven to help you become healthier over the long term.
There are thousands of reasons to smile, but more importantly even more reasons why we should share the joy in making other people smile.
So why not give it a try? Here are a few tips to get your started.
1.
You need to stay positive.
Smiling is much easier and natural when you are thinking positively.
More importantly though, making people smile requires a positive attitude, and they'll be able to tell.
So your first step should be to start off every day by committing to yourself that you are going to stay positive no matter what comes your way.
It may not be easy to do, but the outcome and vibe you'll convey on others will be more than worth it.
2.
Avoid the negative influences in your life - it's not easy to stay positive if you have negative people around you.
So, step two towards making people smile, is to avoid the negative in your life.
This is as simple as avoiding music that brings you down or changes your mood, reducing the time you spend with people that are always negative, or avoiding the "water cooler" talk at work that implies negative tones towards the atmosphere.
It is much easier to stay positive and smiling when you reduce the amount of negativity in your life.
3.
Practice smiling.
Of course we all know how to smile, but it is how we smile that makes the difference.
Next time you bump into a mirror take a moment to evaluate your smile.
Is it a closed mouth grin, quick smirk with minimal teeth, or is it a big and genuine smile that shines from cheek to cheek? When you take a moment to analyze, find the smile you find most comfortable with, yet comes off welcoming and friendly.
A real, genuine smile goes a long way towards making other people want to smile as well.
4.
Set goals for yourself.
If you aren't used to actively smiling at other and making them smile in return, it's a good idea to set a few goals for yourself.
From here on out, make it your mission to have at least five people smile per day.
When you find that easy, increase the number.
You may find that not everyone will return the smile, but that's okay.
No matter what happens, keep on smiling.
The more you do this, the greater chances are you'll make other people smile, including people you didn't know were looking, and you'll make yourself a much more positive and happy person as well.
There are no rules that say you have to spend your day making people smile, it's a choice.
But, the only way you'll truly notice a difference in yourself and how you feel is if you try.
Not only that, you'll make a difference in the world - for some people more than you'll ever know.
The best part about smiling is, anyone can do it, regardless or our backgrounds or skills.
We have the power to make people smile, and now it's time to use it.
