How to Clean a Pool Cover & Filter
- 1). Turn off the filter. Remove the filter cap and the basket and pump that make up the filter. Dump all loose debris and dirt from the cap, basket and pump.
- 2). Rinse the basket, cap and pump with a hose to remove any remaining dirt and debris. If the filter features a cartridge, rinse this as well. Wash the pieces as necessary with mild dish soap.
- 3). Adjust your filter to the "backwash" setting. This adjustment is generally done with a push/pull valve or a setting on the filter, near where you turn the machine off and on.
- 4). Reactivate your filter. Water will run through the filter and into the pipes. One of the pipes should feature a small window through which you can see the water. Run the filter until the water runs clear through the window.
- 5). Turn off the filter once more and return your setting to the normal filtering position. Turn on the filter, allow it to run for three to four seconds, and then deactivate it again.
- 6). Repeat backwashing the filter once more, until the water runs clear again. Repeat this procedure three times to clean all dirt and debris out of the filter. When finished, turn off the filter, and return your setting to normal filtering.
- 7). Replace the basket, pump and cap into your filter. Reactivate your filter.
- 1). Drain any water that is sitting on top of your pool cover. Whether you are removing it for the season or it rained over night, you must remove the water before applying or removing the cover from the pool, or you will mix the dirty water with your pool water. Use a pump, wet/dry vacuum or buckets to get rid of this water.
- 2). Brush away any leaves or sticks from the pool cover. Use a long-armed scrub brush or push broom to get rid of all of this debris.
- 3). Remove the pool cover from the pool, if you have not already done so. Rinse the cover with a hose to remove any remaining debris. Scrub at the surface with a scrub brush and mild dish detergent, if necessary, to remove any stains.
