How to Make Flavored Marshmallow Fondant

    • 1). Pour 2 cups miniature marshmallows into a microwave-safe bowl. Add 1/2 tbsp. butter or margarine to the bowl and microwave for 30 seconds. Stir the marshmallows and continue to microwave for 15 second intervals until the marshmallows are thoroughly melted.

    • 2). Add 3 tbsp. water, 1/2 tsp. salt and 1 tbsp. corn syrup to the melted marshmallows. Stir the ingredients in until they are well incorporated.

    • 3). Add 3 cups powdered sugar into the bowl and begin to work it into the marshmallows with a wooden spoon. Continue to work the powdered sugar into the marshmallows until it begins to stiffen.

    • 4). Grease a countertop or your kitchen table with solid vegetable shortening. Cover your hands with the shortening as well.

    • 5). Set the marshmallow and powdered sugar ball onto the greased surface and knead it with your hands.

    • 6). Continue to add powdered sugar to the marshmallow fondant 1/4 cup at a time until the desired consistency is reached. You'll want it to be pliable without tearing.

    • 7). Place the marshmallow fondant into a bowl and cover it with plastic cling wrap. Refrigerate the fondant for 12 hours, or overnight.

    • 8). Remove the marshmallow fondant from the refrigerator and flatten the ball on a lightly greased surface.

    • 9). Work 1/4 cup melted white, dark or semisweet chocolate to the fondant with your hands. Add extra powdered sugar to the marshmallow fondant if this alters the consistency. Otherwise, add two to three drops of almond, orange, lemon, banana or any other desired flavor extract to the fondant. Knead the extract into the fondant until no colored streaks remain. Sample a small amount of the flavored fondant and work additional extract in until a desired intensity of flavoring is achieved.
