Halloween Games to Play at Home
- Put a Halloween twist on a classic game. Musical Chairs is an easy game that does not require much planning. Put the chairs in a circle, one less chair than the number of people playing. If you can find it, use the song "Monster Mash." Start the song, and have the kids start walking around the chairs. When you stop the song, everyone tries to sit in a chair. Whoever does not have a chair is out.
Remove a chair and start the song again. Do this until there is only one person left and one chair. Give a small prize to the winner, such as a candy bar. For an added Halloween touch, have the kids wear monster masks during the game. - Make three pumpkins out of orange construction paper for every guest you expect. Make only two special pumpkins using a different color of paper. Hide the pumpkins all over your house. Put a few in some obvious places, but be sure to hide some in hard-to-find spots.
Give each guest a paper bag for collecting pumpkins. When you say go, the guests scramble to find as many pumpkins as they can. Whoever finds the most pumpkins wins a prize. Give a special prize to the guests who find the bonus different-colored pumpkins. - All you need for this game is a flashlight. Have the guests sit in a circle. Turn all the lights are out so the room is very dark. Give one person in the circle a flashlight. This person is the story starter. Have him begin to tell a scary story. For example, he may start the story by saying, "Once upon a time in a dark graveyard" and then give a few sentences of the story. Have him pass the flashlight to the person next to him. That guest will then tell a few sentences to continue the story. Each guest adds to the story and then passes the flashlight on. When everyone has had a turn, go around the circle again, or ask the story starter to finish the story.
