How to Make an RC Battlebot
- 1). Acquire a two- or four-degree remote control. The degrees refer to how many directions can be controlled on the remote control. A six-degree remote offers further degrees of movement, usually via shoulder-based options on the remote, and digital control also is an optional upgrade over analog.
- 2). Wire the receiver by first plugging in the servos (motor), and then the battery. To accomplish this, locate the prongs on the end of the receiver, and simply make solid attachments to the servos and the battery via these prongs.
- 3). Pick up your preselected robot frame (wheel base). Attach the piece of plastic to the wheels to form the base, if no such base is already attached. Drill four small holes on the perimeter of this plastic, flip over and attach the servos via the holes, one on each side. Make sure the servos are securely in place.
- 4). Attach a piece of Velcro to the base where the plastic is located. Use this Velcro to supply a docking base for the battery, between the two attached servos. Then on the opposite side, attach another piece of Velcro, and use this to securely dock the receiver.
- 5). Wire the components to the receiver. Everything in wiring ultimately goes through the receiver. Attach the right servos to the end of the receiver, at channel No. 1, although the channel can be switched up and the number is not critical as this is just an example. Hook the left servo to channel No. 2. Also, hook the battery to the receiver at the opposite end from the servos.
- 6). Add in your weapon(s) of choice for your battlebot. The easiest route to take is to securely mount some stationary ramming device (such as a protruding metal block) or cutting mechanism that can deal easy damage to another vehicle simply through the movement of the radio-controlled unit.
- 7). Perform a cleanup of loose wires. An important part of wiring is safety and function. Get rid of dragging and loose wires on the Battlebot by using a twist tie or some other simple mechanism to bind the wires together out of the way.
- 8). Turn on the remote and enjoy the radio-controlled movement of your battlebot.
