Planting Times for Vegetables in North Texas
- When planting in North Texas, choose cold weather vegetables as soon as the ground is workable, usually in the beginning of March. These crops include lettuce, onions, Brussels sprouts and parsley. They can survive a little bit of frost and will be finished growing by the time the summer heat comes.
- Once the danger of frost has completely passed, plant vegetables and fruits like tomatoes, peppers and beans. These warm weather plants will thrive in the heat of the North Texas summer, but are frost susceptible and will die if you plant them too early.
- There are some vegetables that you can plant in April that will survive a surprise frost. These include snap beans, cucumbers and corn.
