How to Cite an In-Text Citation Without an Author
- 1). Locate the information from your source that you would like to incorporate into your paper. If you are quoting that source's information directly, place quotation marks around it. If you are paraphrasing the information, do not include quotation marks.
- 2). Place an open parenthesis after the last word of the quote that you have incorporated into the paper. If it is a direct quote, the parenthesis go after the closing quotation mark but before the period.
- 3). Type the title of the source and put it in quotation marks. If the title is longer than four words, shorten it. Follow this with the page number that the information you have included comes from, close the parenthesis and type a period.
The following is an example: ("MLA Style" 32). - 1). Select the information from the source or reference that you wish to add to your paper. This can be a direct or indirect quote. If it is a direct quote, quotation marks should enclose it. If it is not a direct quote, but is paraphrased, then no quotation marks are needed.
- 2). Place an open parenthesis after the last word of the quote. Inside of the parenthesis, type the first few words of title of the source. The title should be in quotation marks, with a comma before the last quotation mark.
- 3). Type the year that the source was published and close the parentheses. Follow this with a period, signifying the end of the sentence.
