ADHD: An Update on Medication Adherence and Persistence
ADHD: An Update on Medication Adherence and Persistence
The current systematic review provided an updated understanding of adherence and persistence rates with ADHD medications and identified potential factors which may impact and predict greater utilization of treatment. What is apparent is that irrespective of the investigative approach used, non-adherence and treatment cessation are prevalent and important issues with regards to the pharmacological management of ADHD. Overall adherence and persistence appear to be greatest for LA formulations among younger populations, but even in these instances, there is great potential for improvement. Synthesizing the findings of qualitative examinations of adherence and persistence may help complement the present findings and assist in providing a more holistic understanding of the issues impacting upon patient medication use.
