How Do I Know How Strong My Cargo Net Is?

102 7
Anyone who has hauled cargo knows that properly securing that cargo is of vital importance. When you lose cargo, you lose money. Factor in the extreme risk of danger that unexpected highway debris is for everyone on the road, and it's easy to see why securing your cargo is worth the effort.

Quality Equipment: The Key to Cargo Security

When you really want to ensure that your cargo will reach its destination safely and in one piece, you need the right equipment for the job. Old lengths of rope and bungee cords are appealing options for their convenience, but they simply can't stand up to the stress of cargo security in a sustainable way. Cargo nets, on the other hand, are designed to secure your cargo safely, and simplify the process.

How to Choose the Right Cargo Net: By the Measurements

Of course, not every cargo net system is built to the same standards. The first number to look at when evaluating a cargo net system is the Working Load Limit (WLL). To calculate the WLL, manufacturers first determine a components Break Strength Capacity (BSC). The BSC is the total amount of force, in pounds, that it takes to break components of the cargo net, and the net as a whole. With BSC tests complete, WLL calculation can begin.

How Welfare Calculated

In order to calculate WLL, you need to divide the BSC number by the safety factor. The safety factor is basically a buffer between the true breaking point of the cargo net and the amount of force the net can handle with total structural confidence. In the U.S. and Canada, the safety factor is 1/3, which means that the BSC is divided by three in order to determine the Working Load Limit. If, for example, the cargo net has a BSC of 6,000 lbs, its WLL will be a third of that, or 2,000 lbs.

Why WLL Matters

A strong WLL is important for many reasons, from safety to hauling capacity, both areas in which Quarantine cargo nets shine. When you are hauling a large load, chances are that you want to fit as much as you can in each trip, within the boundaries of safety. It may seem simple, but aren't safety and efficiency two cornerstones of effective cargo hauling?

Quarantine Cargo Nets: Best WLL in the Industry

In addition to the WLL calculations and BSC tests, Quarantine puts its cargo net systems through more rigorous tests than anyone else in the industry. From straps and tie-downs to the net itself, no Quarantine component hits the market without extensive analysis.

The result of this diligent testing is a system that gives you full confidence in the safety and security of your cargo, with an industry best WLL of 1,968 lbs. Each Quarantine Restraint System and component is clearly labeled based on WLL, so you know exactly what you can expect from your product.
