Quit Smoking Tip - Know The Facts About Quit Smoking Aids

103 10
Quit smoking aids abound.
While they might promise you can quit smoking quickly and easily and avoid withdrawal symptoms, you'll discover there are drawbacks.
The best quit smoking tip is to find a natural way to quit smoking.
That means finding treatments that do not involve drugs or other addictive products.
What treatment options are available? What are the drawbacks? Understand that smoking is a habit you got into and that it's necessary to break those smoking habits in order to quit.
Treatments might help, but as long as those habits exist, there's a strong chance you will start smoking again.
As far as treatments go, you can choose whichever suits you but be sure to read the precautions and learn about the side effects first.
Some will be more effective than others, but starting smoking againwhen the medication is withdrawn is a common occurrence.
Depending on the treatment, some common side effects can include:
  • dry mouth
  • dizziness
  • change in appetite
  • agitation
  • nausea
  • headache
  • vomiting
  • gas
  • insomnia
  • abnormal dreams
  • changes in the way food tastes
  • rashes and skin irritations
More serious side effects, such as seizures, while rare, can occur.
Some are not recommended for people with kidney problems, eating disorders, asthma, who are pregnant and who are on certain medications.
If that list hasn't changed your mind, here's a brief list of some of the better-known treatment options.
Nicotine gum has been around a very long time.
While it might bring you results if you follow the instructions, you will still face the task of tapering off after your 1-3 month treatment plan is over.
That's because nicotine gum actually contains nicotine and therefore is addictive.
Nicotine lozenges:Once again, nicotine is an ingredient.
It is recommended that they be used in conjunction with other quit smoking programs.
Nicotine patches, as the name implies, also contain nicotine.
Apart from any mild addiction that might occur, you also risk possible side effects.
Be sure to read the package to learn what they are.
Nicotine nasal spray is another nicotine-containing treatment that helps the user ease the cravings.
However it can be addictive so it is recommended that the spray be used for no longer than 6 months total.
You'll need a prescription for this one.
Nicotine inhalers seem to be a good choice among smokers because inhaling the nicotine is the closest thing to having a real cigarette.
High-dose nicotine replacement therapy requires a doctor's supervision to monitor that the dose is working properly and that the side effects are not making the user ill.
The idea is to match the dose to the level of nicotine the smoker was getting based on the number of cigarettes smoked previously.
Bupropion (Zyban), Varenicline (Chantix), and Atropine and scopolamine combination therapy are prescription medications that are proven to help people quit smoking.
They require medical supervision and in some cases, have not been tested to determine their safety if used with other treatments such as patches.
The atropine and scopolamine combination therapy might require the user to take a separate drug to combat any side effects.
Other methods do not have much scientific evidence of their effectiveness in quitting smoking.
These include hypnosis, acupuncture, laser therapy, cigarette filters, special products that make tobacco taste terrible, vitamin supplements and special diets.
Be careful with herbal supplements and homeopathic treatments because there is absolutely no evidence they work.
Also, be forewarned that they can be unsafe to use.
From this brief overview, you might have realized that there are pros and cons to taking any of these products.
Be aware, too, that they might not work for you at all.
The only obvious benefit to these treatments is that you will get the nicotine without the dangerous tars that are actually more harmful than nicotine.
It's important to keep in mind, however, that such treatments can only do so much, despite their promises.
You still need persistence and determination and will power to quit smoking for good.
The best quit smoking tip I can offer is to seek whatever means will work without resorting to any replacement therapy.
There are side effects to consider with almost all quit smoking aids, as well as some health issues to worry about.
Whereas, if you quit smoking the natural way you will not risk such side effects and potential health dangers.
