Homemade Fairy Party Invitations
- Visit a craft store to choose the supplies for the project. Purchasing blank, folded invitations in packages avoids having to cut the invitations to size from card stock. These packages usually include envelopes.
If choosing to use card stock paper over prepackaged blank invites, pick a 12-by-12-inch colored card stock to use for the invitations and a coordinating fairy-themed scrapbook paper. Cut the card stock to size to fit the envelopes. A 5.5-by-4.25-inch card is a common size that fits into an A2-size envelope. These will be folded notes, so cut the paper with a paper cutter to 5.5 by 8.5 inches, or the appropriate size for your envelope.
Depending on what is chosen for the front of the invitation, find appropriate embellishments. Fairy-themed stickers are a good and easy choice.
Write the wording for the invitation. Use examples online if you need help finding the right words. According to AnnouncingIt.com, proper invitation etiquette includes not including any punctuation at the end of any line. - Print the wording from a word processor program like Microsoft Word onto the paper. Set the page size on the program to match the paper size that is being used and change the paper's margin size. In Microsoft Word 2007 for example, go to "Page Layout," "Page Setup," "Size," "More Paper Sizes" and enter the size of your paper in inches. Change the margins by choosing "Page Layout," "Page Setup," "Margins" and set right, left, top and bottom margins to 0.5 inches to allow room for the wording.
Enter the wording a few spaces past halfway down the page. This will take a few practice runs to get just right. Change the font sizing and style to fit the space of the invitation. A nice calligraphic font fits well into a fairy theme. Practice printing on plain white computer paper cut to the size of the invitation until all the wording prints correctly on the bottom half to allow for folding.
If the invitation will not print correctly, you might also have to change paper size in the printer's settings. After you choose print, a printer box opens for you to click "OK." There should be a "Properties" button in this printer box that will allow you to change the size of the paper to the same custom size you entered into the word-processor program. - Fold the invitations in half with the wording on the inside. Score the paper with a dull craft knife or scissors down the fold line for a cleaner fold. (Scoring means to make a very light cut in the paper by applying a light touch with a sharp instrument.) Practicing scoring on scrap paper is best.
Decorate the front of your invitation. Cut a piece of the fairy-themed scrapbook paper 0.25 inches smaller in length and width than the invitation and glue it centered onto the invite. On top of that place a fairy decoration or embellishment. Cut fairy wings from felt and glue them on, make a wand with a glittered paper star and paper rectangle wand or use a fairy-themed sticker.
Add the finishing touch to the invitation by making fairy-dust packets to include inside. Fill tiny envelopes or pouches with craft glitter or dust, seal and write on the outside "Magic Fairy (or Pixie) Dust." Make them a fun addition for the guests to enjoy.
