How to Check on How My SSD Claim Is Going
- 1). Visit the local Social Security office or call it to check on the status of your SSD claim (see Resources). Have your Social Security and claim confirmation numbers with you when you contact the office. The confirmation number is in the letter the Social Security Administration sent you letting you know it had received your application.
- 2). Call the national office of the Social Security Administration toll free at 800-772-1213. Speak to someone about your application Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. At other times, an automated system answers your call. Use the telephone's keypad to input the information the program asks so it can retrieve the information on your disability claim.
- 3). Check the status of your SSD claim online at the Social Security Administration website (see Resources). Click the "Check Application Status" button. The system takes you to a new window. Type your Social Security number and the claim confirmation number in the spaces provided. Click "Next" for the system to retrieve your claim status.
