Stages of Home Automation Design
- Some experts will highly recommend the modular approach to home automation installation as the only smart approach. What modules you will find described may vary with different experts, but generally speaking it makes sense to approach home automation by approaching the work in categories: beginning with the most essential and progressing one stage at a time until you reach the least crucial element of your home automation system.
- Security makes for the most crucial concern for many householders. Security covers both detection of external invaders, such as burglary entries, and detection of internal security threats such as through the use of smoke and carbon dioxide detectors. Your security concerns should form the foundation of the first phase of your home automation design project.
- Lighting for many householders accounts for the second most crucial aspect of home automation. Lighting affects all daily activities and particularly the most crucial ones such as cooking meals or students in the house studying for tests. Potentially, therefore, lighting automation will make for the second phase of your home automation design project.
- While in most climates air conditioning is not a life-and-death matter, in many climates, heating is a life-and-death matter. Automation of heating and air conditioning functions around the home makes for a high priority, as well. Home automation may fall into the second or the third most essential category depending on the householder: some will find lighting more important than heating and air conditioning. Other householders will prefer to tackle the heating and air conditioning requirements before lighting in a home automation project. Make your own decision as to which has more importance to you: for example, even if you live in a cold climate you may choose to do lighting before heating in your home automation design project if you begin the project in summer or in late spring since you will not need your heating system for a few months.
- The final stage of home automation design involves the "convenience" elements of the project. This stage would involve such things as automating audio and video feeds around your house such as television, stereo, CD players and so on. This phase would also extend to such things as home theater if your house incorporates such an entertainment facility.
