How to Sync Folders on the Internet
- 1). Check out Windows Live Sync. This service installs on your computer and allows you to sync up to 5 GB of data across multiple computers for free. You sign up for a free account. Note that Windows Live Sync only works for Windows computers, and cannot sync with Macs.
- 2). Give Dropbox a try. This software gives you one folder, called "My Dropbox," which automatically syncs your files and folders to any other computer on which you install Dropbox. Dropbox gives you 2 GB of storage free but allows you to gain 500 additional MB for each person you refer to their program. Dropbox works on Macs and PCs.
- 3). Try out Google Docs if you just want to keep your folders stored in the cloud. Google Docs allows you to keep up to 1 GB of data stored on their servers for free, with more available for a fee. You can upload files that are not documents, and then organize them into folders using the Google Docs interface. This service is best if you want to sync a folder with just documents because you can use Google Docs to edit your files and then have them saved in the cloud so that you can access and edit them from wherever you can log onto your Google account.
