• 1). Click "Start" and select "Run." Alternatively, you may open the "Run" command by hitting the Windows key and the letter "R" simultaneously.
  
  
• 2). Type "cmd" into the box. Click "OK."
  
  
• 3). Type "cd.." and hit "Enter."
  
  
• 4). Repeat the last step until you get to the "C:" drive. The drive should be your root-level drive. If your drive is not C, it will be represented by a different letter.
  
  
• 5). Type "net stop dnscache" and hit "Enter."
  
  
• 6). Run the "W32.Downadup Removal Tool." This tool is free of charge and downloadable from the Symantec website. To download the tool, click on the "Download Removal Tool" link, under the header. Either save the file to your hard drive or run it directly from the website. If you saved it to your hard drive, locate the program and double-click to initiate it.
  
  
• 7). Click the "I Accept" button.
  
  
• 8). Click the "Start" button to begin a scan. The program will automatically remove any Conficker or April Fools' virus infections from your computer.
  
  

Run Microsoft's Malicious Software Removal Tool.

• 1). Visit the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool page. Click on the "Skip the details and download the tool" link, near the top of the page.
  
  
• 2). Click on the "Download" button. Wait for the download to begin. If it does not start after 30 seconds, click on the "Start download" link.
  
  
• 3). Save the installation file to your computer or click on the "Run" button. If you saved the file onto your computer, double-click on the program's icon. The program will be in the folder where you saved it.
  
  
• 4). Click the "Next" button. Choose the type of scan you wish to run. A "Quick Scan" will only scan vital portions of your computer. A "Full Scan" will scan your entire system. A "Customize Scan" will allow you to choose which parts of your system you wish to scan.
  
  
• 5). Click "Next."
  
  
• 6). Wait for the scan to finish. Review the results and exit the program.
