How to Clean Mildew From Painted Drywall
- 1). Fill a 5-gallon plastic bucket with 1 gallon of warm water. Add 1 cup of powdered oxygen bleach to the warm water and mix with a spoon until the bleach dissolves. Add two drops of a gentle, clear dish soap in the bleach mixture and stir with the spoon.
- 2). Submerge the sponge in the diluted oxygen bleach and wring out the excess liquid while holding the sponge above the plastic bucket.
- 3). Wipe the mildew off the painted drywall with the damp sponge. Oxygen bleach will remove fungus -- such as mold and mildew -- without damaging the paint or the drywall.
- 4). Rinse the mixture off the walls with a cloth dampened with cool water. Pat the excess liquid off the wall with a towel.
