I Can"t Do Everything! or Can I?
Everyone has those times in their life when everything seems to be going at an unbelievable pace. Work is busy. Home is busy. You have deadline, weddings, graduations, school plays and concerts, and sports events. Looking at the schedule for the entire month gives you a headache.
How do you get through these times without losing your mind? First, keep your schedule up to date. There is nothing worse at a busy time than worrying about something you might have missed. If you have an electronic schedule, give yourself extra reminders if you need to. Be sure to record any schedule changes immediately.
Don't look too far ahead. Before you go to bed, look at your calendar for the next day's activities and any reminders pertaining to upcoming events. By knowing ahead of time what is coming up you will be more relaxed. Otherwise, you end up lying in bed trying to remember everything that is coming up the next day. Try to plan your day accordingly and put activities in logical order so you will have to make as few trips as possible. Prioritize your activities to be sure that the important things get done first.
Accept the fact that everything may not get done exactly the way you want it. During busy times you normal routine may fall by the wayside. You also need to take advantage of any down time. If you are spending time waiting at baseball practice, take something with you that you can do while you are waiting. This is great time to make phone calls.
You may also have to accept the fact that not everything may get done and/or you might miss something. It is not the end of the world. Unless it was a scheduled kidney transplant that you missed, no one is going to die and the sun will rise tomorrow.
Try to relax and enjoy the activities! What's the point of having all this fun stuff to do if you are so stressed out by it that you can't slow down enough to enjoy the moment without thinking of all the stuff you have to do later. You can't do anything else while you are at the activity (since breaking out the laptop during your third cousins wedding will be frowned on by the rest of the family), so relax and enjoy! At some point, it will all become a wonderful memory.
It is wonderful what you can do when you have to. C.S. Lewis (1898-1963) Irish Writer, scholar
Look at a day when you are supremely satisfied at the end. It's not a day when you lounge around doing nothing; it's when you've had everything to do, and you've done it. Margaret Thatcher (1925 - ) Former prime minister of the U.K.
