Vegetarian Cooking Schools in New York

If you are a vegetarian and love to cook, you are probably always on the lookout for healthful new recipes. One way to pick up meal ideas is to attend a cooking class at a culinary arts organization or school. Even if you're not vegetarian, the classes will pass along some healthful eating options. New York has several schools with vegetarian cooking instruction. - The Natural Gourmet Institute offers public cooking courses in addition to its comprehensive culinary arts program. Single-session classes are available, as are seminars with up to five sessions. Many classes focus on healthful and vegetarian food preparations. A five-part seminar teaches students how to prepare vegetarian meals and snacks. Dishes taught in the seminar include mango guacamole, zucchini pasta primavera with white wine cashew sauce, and raspberry sorbet. The seminar cost just under $600 as of 2010. Other instruction on vegetarian cooking includes classes on homemade tofu and vegetarian tapas.

Several hundred classes are available, many of them accommodating the vegetarian cook. A course titled "Tofu on the Table" offers instruction about how to bake and grill tofu and how to use it in a variety of dips. Another course focuses on vegetarian meals that can be prepared on a grill; squash, farm egg and spinach pizza and a smoky tomato sauce are among the recipes taught in the class. As of 2010, classes consisted of one four-hour meeting, and most cost just over $100.
