How to Install a Hood Deflector

104 25
    • 1). Locate the center of the front edge of the hood, which is typically at the same location as the car's emblem. If there is no emblem, use a tape measure to identify the center. Once you identify the center, measure up 2 inches from the bottom lip of the hood .

    • 2). Wipe the area well with the alcohol wipe that came with the hood deflector.

    • 3). Locate the center stopper part in the deflector kit, which has a square bottom and paper strips on the back. Remove the paper strips to expose the adhesive and press it firmly into the location you cleaned with the alcohol. The stopper has a convex ridge on the end that points away from the hood.

    • 4). Open the driver's side door of the vehicle and pull the hood release lever near the floor. Open the hood and raise it to the full position. Look at the underside edge of the hood and locate the four circular clips that hold the black rubber molding on. Pull each clip downward with your hand to detach them.

    • 5). Fold back the rubber molding until you find a small, square hole. Insert one of the grommets from the kit up through the bottom of hole. Repeat to install grommets in all six holes. The grommet looks like a small metal or plastic square.

    • 6). Wipe the entire front edge of the hood with another alcohol wipe. Pick up one of the deflector brackets and turn it so that the flat side faces down. Slide the bracket over one of installed grommets until the hole in the grommet lines up with the hole in the bracket. Repeat to slide brackets over all remaining grommets.

    • 7). Use a felt tip pen to make a small line on either side of each bracket. Then remove the brackets and locate the clear protective tape strips in the kit. Peel off the strips and place one in between each marker line, with the sticky side facing downward. Half the tape should be on top of the hood and half of it on the bottom of the hood, so that it wraps around.

    • 8). Slide the brackets back into their proper positions and insert a screw into each grommet from the bottom of the hood. The screw should extend up into the bracket.

    • 9). Close the hood and place the air deflector on the front of the hood. Align the holes in the deflector with the holes that are in the upper parts of the brackets. Insert screws through each hole in the bottom edge of the deflector and tighten them with a screwdriver.
