Usually you would do your internship during the fall or spring semester, but because of certain sports that students play, some students can only do their internship in the summer time.
In order to get an internship most places want you to have certain skills to work for them.

Organization skills: You will have many things throughout your internship that you will need to keep track of so you want to have your stuff organized.
Having your things organized will help you when it comes time to finding something, rather than flipping through papers until you find it.
Communication skills: Being any field you need to be able to communicate with your clients/fans.
You have to be able to open your mouth and make conversation so people will in interested in what you're doing.
If you're going to be quiet and shy this field isn't for you.
Computer skills: Most places require you to be able to use Microsoft office.
The main computer skills you want to be able to use are Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and the internet.
Having computer skills will put you ahead of everything because they won't need to teach you first.
Flexible hours/Schedule: Working many fields requires you to be able to work many hours.
Not only do you have to work game nights, you have to work the days during the week to get you prepared for game night.
You need to work between 20-30 hours + game nights.
If you can work these hours then this will help for the internship.
Positive attitude: Having a positive attitude is very important to have.
You need to be willing to do the work you're given and get it done.
When there are game nights you need to be positive and friendly to the fans.
Don't go in with a chip on your shoulder.
Multitask/Prioritize: You will be given many jobs during your internship and you need to be able to do a couple things at once.
You need to know what should be done first and what's more important.
Responsible: This is probably one of the most important things of your job.
You need to make sure everything gets done on time and in a timely manner.
You need to make sure your on time for your shifts and don't miss any work days.
