Treating Acne With Vitamins & Herbs Alone
- When looking for an acne product, it's hard to find one that works without completely drying out your skin. This is largely due to the chemicals used in most acne products. However, if you are tired of the burning and dry skin that come with most acne treatment products, try treating your acne using natural vitamins and herbs.
- Vitamin A is a great vitamin to combat acne because it contains carotenoids. In fact, not getting enough vitamin A could actually be causing your acne. Vitamin A is well known to strengthen your skin tissue to prevent acne breakouts. It also helps to maintain and repair the damaged skin tissue after an acne breakout occurs. Great natural sources of vitamin A include carrots, spinach and red bell peppers.
- Vitamin B is also an essential vitamin for skin health and the prevention of acne. B1, B2, B3, B6 and B12 are all important B vitamins for maintaining healthy skin. The B vitamins are responsible for keeping your skin toned, as well as improving the circulation to your skin cells. Acne can often be caused by a Riboflavin (B2) or Niacinamide (B3) deficiency. Sources for getting adequate amounts of vitamin B include meat, bread and leafy green vegetables.
- Zinc can be helpful in the treatment of acne because it promotes the healing processes of the skin. Because many outbreaks can leave your skin scarred and damaged, increasing your zinc intake during an acne breakout can greatly increase your skin's natural ability to heal your acne outbreaks sooner. Most protein sources will give you a natural boost of zinc, including fish, crabs, beef and chicken.
- Aloe is a natural herb that can also be used to treat an acne breakout. Aloe contains natural astringents and antibacterial solutions that can help to clear out grease and build-up from your pores and heal any infections that may have resulted from an acne breakout.
- Because many acne outbreaks are accompanied by inflammation in the pores, lavender soap may be helpful. Lavender is a natural anti-inflammatory agent that when applied to the skin can help reduce inflammation of the pores and promote healing.
