The college is spread across a 120-acre site and all students live on campus. It fields a number of top athletic teams, and all students must participate in a sport every year. Other extracurricular activities include a 50-hour community service program. Parents are welcome to take part in the students' regular trips outside the college; past trips have included dog-sledding in Maine and an eco-adventure in Costa Rica.

State University of New York Maritime College

    • The Maritime College is an undergraduate and graduate institution that specializes in engineering, science, business and maritime transportation. A U.S. Coast Guard license and intern program is also on campus. Situated on the waterfront of Throgs Neck, the college has a 565-foot training ship, the Empire State VI, aboard which students travel the world and take training cruises to Europe during the summer. The campus has a residence hall, but not all students live on campus. The college also houses the Maritime Industry Museum.

    U.S. Merchant Marine Academy

The college runs a four-year program in which students, known as midshipmen, are subjected to a consistent military regimen. With a large number of vessels, students gain firsthand experience in the marine environment and go on regular sea missions for training. The academy also funds student visits to cultural events in New York City.

    Renaissance Military and Leadership Academy

    • Located in Morningside Heights, Manhattan, the Renaissance Military and Leadership Academy teaches students the importance of self-discipline and prepares them for leadership roles with a rigorous school day and curriculum. Academic learning and physical outdoor education are mixed, and the college runs sports programs that focus on teamwork and healthy living. The college has a range of extracurricular activities and students take regular trips to museums and military installations around the United States.
