How to Remove Rust From the Inside of a Gas Tank
- 1). Open the lid of the gas tank and pour all of the contents out. Pour both bottles of the toilet bowl cleaner into the tank and roll the tank around a few times to coat the inside of the tank thoroughly with the toilet bowl cleaner.
- 2). Allow the tank to sit for at least 12 hours with the toilet bowl cleaner coating the inside. Fill the tank with water and dump out the contents.
- 3). Fill the tank with water again and insert a tablespoon of dish soap. Have your helper assist in shaking the tank around and then dump out the contents. Repeat this step two more times.
- 4). Pour all of the contents out and then use the hair dryer to blow warm air into the tank until every crevice is dry. Inspect the inside of the tank with a flashlight to see if there are any pinholes that need to be fixed prior to mounting.
