Booking a Staycation This Summer

There's no escaping the recession at the moment and many people are being affected by the economic downturn. Both businesses and individuals are looking at ways to rein in their spending and tighten their purse strings, while some families will be making sacrifices to make ends meet.

Unfortunately for some, this might mean forgoing their traditional summer holiday because they simply cannot afford to pay for flights, accommodation, activities and meals out when they get to their chosen destination. Plus, the financial trouble in the eurozone means many companies on the mainland are also struggling at the moment - so now might not be the best time to visit.

Instead, families should consider staying a bit closer to home and booking a holiday in the UK this summer. This is much cheaper than going aboard as driving or taking a train to a holiday destination is likely to be far less expensive than the cost of flights and travelling to the airport.

Plenty of holiday parks offer all-inclusive packages, which makes booking a holiday cheap and simple. This gives parents the chance to relax as well, as their youngsters will be kept busy with the on-site entertainment, while adults are free to enjoy relaxing by a swimming pool, walking in the local area or chilling out in the bar.

Those who prefer an adventure activity could hire bikes to cycle round wherever they are staying, while anyone travelling to the coast might like to try sports like sailing, windsurfing or jet skiing. Of course, others might prefer to relax on the sand with an ice-cream, but luckily the UK caters to all types of holidaymakers.

The beauty of staying in Britain is it means it is also very easy to try out different types of accommodation. Of course, there are hotels, chalets, holiday villas and cottages for people who can't go without their home comforts, but those who really want to save money could pack a tent and try camping for a weekend. This gives a real taste of the great outdoors, is fun for kids and is much cheaper than booking somewhere to stay.

Of course, the weather can be rather unpredictable in the UK and as last summer shows, there is nothing to stop the rain from coming down in the traditionally warmer months. But by booking breaks in July or August, people may be able to guarantee themselves at least a couple of days of sunshine so they can get out and explore.
