Breast Augmentation - Know More About It
Implants can be a positive step for many women.
It enhances the shape and texture of the breast, corrects any imperfections and misshapen contours and for some, it gives added confidence to their body image and overall confidence in who they are as a woman.
Additional benefits of enhancement procedure are: improves the overall-top to bottom-appearance of the woman, increases self-confidence and offers to many women, more attractive and appealing, clothing options that enhance their self-image.
But before undergoing this type of surgery, women need to know what to expect, what to expect from the results of the procedure, the risks involved and so forth.
In addition, after the operation, every woman needs to know how long the recovery will take, how much pain to expect and the process of healing and scars.
It is a fact that in the US medical products must be proven safe and effective for the consumer before they are sold and used but this was not always true with implant devices that were sold before 1976.
Back then, the FDA didn't require companies that were selling silicone implants for the implants to be safe.
It was also at that time when women began to be more vocal about implant problems and doctors were also stating that they were concerned about the safety of their patients and the implants.
It wasn't until 2000 when the FDA required implant makers to prove that their saline implants were safe.
There are obvious risks with enhancement operations.
If a saline implant ruptures, the breast will change in size and shape but the saline leakage will not give any health risks but operation will be needed to remove the silicone shell and a new implant will be put in-most likely at the same time the silicone shell is removed.
However, if a silicone implant is ruptured, you may not know it and this could cause serious health problems such as tissue diseases or cancer.
If this happens, surgery will be needed to remove the ruptured implant and at the same time a new implant will be inserted.
In addition, silicone breast fillers are now being monitored by the Food and Drug Administration with routine MRI scans every two years, once three years have gone by after the implant surgery.
Of course, if problems continue with the silicone implant, it is up to the patient to decide what to do next.
They are considered safe but the patient needs to know and understand the risks and benefits of this surgery.
Still another different type of silicone breast implant is being developed and tested.
It is called the "gummy bear" implant.
It is made of a more cohesive silicone gel.
This may help keep the implant in proper shape and last longer.
Clinical studies are now being held with women testing them out for effectiveness and safety.
Certification is vitally important for this type of operation.
Only a few surgeons in the US are certified by the American Board of Medical Specialties...
(ABMS).
So, always be sure to check for certification.
There are many factors that decide the cost such as where you live, where the procedure is performed, what type of surgery is chosen, what type of anesthesia is used and of course, the surgeon's skill.
