How to Make a Webpage Template
- 1). Choose a program that will help you create your template. A popular and easy to use program would be Microsoft Office Publisher. You can draw and use basic art tools to create your template and Publisher will create website code, or HTML code, for you.
- 2). Start by dividing the template into four different sections. They will be the site heading and slogan, content and navigation, optional navigation and a footer.
- 3). Make a site heading and slogan. Divide your top box into two columns. This way we can put our site heading in one and the slogan in the other.
- 4). Make two more columns, one larger than the other. The larger column will hold your body content and the smaller will be used for site navigation or as a sidebar. Set the height at 400 to 500 pixels for now as you can add scroll bars later if you need them.
- 5). Make three columns for your optional navigation device. This will be used if you want the pages in your site to be viewed in a specific order. The right and left columns will contain arrow pointers and the center column will come in handy for banners or additional footer information.
- 6). Make a footer column. The footer is an important part of the website template because it contains information for your user, and bots like a valid physical address for your company. When someone enters your web page template, the footer should supply enough information to tell them how to get to the main page.
- 7). Add design to your template. Add some color to your template diagram. It's important to not make it too flashy, but still eye-catching. You want to attract people to your website, not annoy them with it.
