People Eligible For Airline Ticket Discounts
- Family members traveling together, i.e., a husband and wife can usually get a better deal than purchasing two individual tickets.
- In most cases, children under 2 are allowed to fly free if they sit on an adult's lap. In other cases, you will be asked to pay 10% of the adult ticket. Kids 2-11 might qualify for a 50% savings. Find out about discounts for children by asking the airline you intend to fly with.
- Travelers 65 years of age or older can qualify for a Senior Citizen discount. ARRP also offers discounts for seniors. Senior Citizen discount seats are limited, so tell the airline early.
- Students aged 12-22, as well as all faculty members, can find discounted tickets at http://www.studentuniverse.com.
- A person in active Military could qualify for a discount.
- Veterans who have served in the military and their family members are entitled to special airfare discounts by becoming a member of the Veterans Advantage Card Program.
- If you are a member of the clergy and can present a Clergy Identification Card, you might be eligible for a discount.
- If you are traveling to attend a funeral, you may be able to save up to 50% off of the ticket price by telling the airline you wish to receive a "bereavement fare" due to a death in the family. You should be prepared to show documentation to the airline, if asked.
- Corporate Discounts: Even if you're not travelling for business, some airlines offer discounted rates to employees of certain large firms. Check with your employer to see if you are eligible for these discounts.
- If you take at least two trips a year, you can get discounted fares by joining a travel club.
Also, you can get cheap airfare by looking for airline coupon codes online that can save you quite a bit on your airfare.
Before booking a flight, always call the airline and ask if they are offering any specials or discount deals. They probably won't volunteer this information without you asking, so ask and you could end up saving hundreds of $$$ or more.
