How to Understand and Stop Your Newborn Baby From Crying
As a young mother all those years ago, I wish I had this knowledge.
All mothers know how it feels when their baby cries and they are unable to help.
And so many ways have been tried.
Staying up all night trying all sorts of things, walking around with the baby, rocking the baby trying to comfort it, trying to feed the baby, changing its nappy, burping the baby...
And still, your baby's cries could get even more insistent.
In the dark past, there were even books about disciplining your child and teaching it not to cry by leaving it to cry in its cot.
In some cultures, there was the teaching of putting your hand over your baby's mouth every time it cried, teaching it that crying is bad (and any other form of self-expression).
In other cultures, the baby is carried by the mother most of the time, which comforts, warms, and burps the baby all at the same time.
But still, they cry.
The modern thinking is that the baby is trying to communicate with us.
When we do not respond to the baby's communication, the crying gets even more insistent, persistent and even hysterical.
But if only we knew what the baby was communicating, we could meet its needs and it would not need to keep crying.
The crying would stop.
Baby and you would get peace.
Finally, a woman with a special talent for sound and memory has discovered newborn babies' secret language.
This is a language used by newborn babies all over the world, in every culture, race, colour, or country.
Whatever language the parents speak (or adults looking after the baby), the newborn babies the world over are born speaking the same language.
And on this video, Priscilla Dunstan reveals the basic 5 words of this language.
Basically, Priscilla has discovered how to hear a baby's cry.
She listens to the first part, just as the newborn starts the cry.
In that part, the baby utters one of 5 words.
For example, when the child starts with "Neh", it is saying that it is hungry.
There are other words for discomfort, pain in the lower abdomen or the need to relieve itself, tiredness, and the need to be burped.
After Priscilla explained the language, she tried to explain why it is so important.
This is the bit that made me feel uncomfortable, as the interviewer moved the subject on and steered it in a different direction, perhaps due to lack of time.
Priscilla started talking about the health benefits, and started by mentioning Shaken Baby Syndrome.
I think she was trying to say that if carers of newborn babies could understand them better, then they are less likely to shake them or attack them in frustration.
Of course, this is mere speculation on my part as to what Priscilla may have been trying to say about it.
I believe only a very damaged person would shake a baby, and the best way is for that carer to get help before putting themselves in a position where they are looking after a baby.
I myself have had several mothers-to-be come to me for EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques, or Tapping) treatment before they had their babies.
And if I have had this experience, there is no doubt that many other EFT practitioners the world over have been approached by responsible and worried mothers-to-be too.
For those times when you get frustrated looking after your baby, EFT can help you be calm.
And when you are calm, your baby is more likely to be calm.
EFT removes the negative programming left by an unhappy childhood or by negative cultural beliefs, so you are free to communicate with your baby and happy to meet its needs.
It can also help your baby when it is in pain.
To learn EFT, you can download a free guide from many EFT practitioners' websites, go to a local or virtual workshop, or simply attend sessions with a practitioner of your choice.
Apart from this one hiccup, the video is amazing.
Priscilla got together with mothers of crying newborn babies, and within a very short time, the mothers have understood their babies' cries and acted accordingly.
The babies went quiet.
They were happy.
The mothers looked delighted and relieved.
Priscilla could figure out what each one of those babies was saying.
She is truly a remarkable woman.
Finally, one cannot possibly do this video justice in one article.
