How to Replace a Pool Chlorinator

104 27
    • 1). Shut off the pump moving water to the chlorinator. Unscrew the unions installed on the pool plumbing connected to the pool chlorinator. If no unions are installed on the plumbing leading to the chlorinator, cut the plumbing with a PVC hacksaw.

    • 2). Pull the pool chlorinator away from the PVC plumbing. Slide a replacement pool chlorinator onto the plumbing. Screw the unions back on tightly or glue the PVC plumbing to the chlorinator with PVC glue and primer. If using glue and primer, allow the plumbing to dry for at least one full day before turning on the pool system.

    • 3). Unscrew the lid of the replacement pool chlorinator. Fill the interior cylinder of the chlorinator with chlorine tablets. Screw the lid onto the pool chlorinator loosely.

    • 4). Turn on the pump moving water to the chlorinator. Once pool water fills the interior of the chlorinator and begins running out of the top of the chlorinator, screw the lid on tightly. Allowing the interior of the chlorinator to fill with water in this manner eliminates the risk of air becoming trapped inside the chlorinator and creating a vapor lock.
