Aluminum Wheel Cleaning, Polishing and Protection

Sure, you want to look good but cleaning your tires and wheels is not just about the appearance - it's preventative maintenance! Regular driving of your car naturally and constantly produces brake dust. This brake dust is a corrosive mixture of tiny metal shavings, adhesives and carbon fibers. This definitely does not look good on your car and, of course, not a good thing for the long-term life of your wheels. So, take a little time. Clean and protect your wheels and tires with the right products and processes.

Wash your Tires and Wheels First.

This prevents overspray or grime from splashing onto your car. Be sure to use a separate wash and rinse bucket and soft bristle brush. Clean tires and wheels one set at a time to prevent the cleaner from drying. Wash then rinse with a strong jet of water before moving to the next tire. Use a wheel cleaner that is safe on all wheel types.

Sonus Rim Bright Wheel Cleaner is acid-free which prevents the gradual deterioration of clear coated, painted, chrome and anodized wheels. It gently removes road grime, grease and stubborn brake dust. A little agitation with a non-abrasive brush, such as Carrand's Grip Tech Deluxe Wheel and Bumper Brush, will allow Sonus Rim Bright to work even better.

Now, Carrand's Deluxe Wheel Brush is also a perfect brush to get those hard to reach rim and spoke crevices. Its double loop design really allows for complete cleaning.

Dry Wheels with a Microfiber Cloth.

Drying your wheels with a soft cloth helps to get rid of any remaining grime and also helps to prevent water spots. The Sonus Microfiber Drying Towel is made of high quality microfiber with a waffle weave texture for optimum absorption. It's a good idea to dedicate one cloth for wheel drying only. You don't want to be rubbing brake dust on your car body when drying it.

Use the PFC Microfiber Applicationr for even application by hand. If applying with a dual action polisher such as the Ultimate Detail Machine by Porter Cable, use a soft polishing or gloss enhancing foam pad. Place a small amount of aluminum polish on pad, touch to surface before starting machine to prevent sling. Once an even, brilliant finish has been produced, the next step is to protect.

Protect and Seal in the Finish.

Now that your wheel, tire and trim are clean and polished, it is time to protect it from oxidation, road salts, detergents and other environmental corrosives. Ultima Tire & Trim Guard Plus is a new polymer coating technology that can be applied to most flexible automotive surfaces such as vinyl, rubber and plastic. It coats, seals, and protects while adding a beautiful glossy finish. On large areas, spray directly onto clean and dry areas and rub product in with an applicator, such as the PFC Tire Swipe Applicator. On smaller areas, spray Ultima Tire & Trim Guard Plus onto the applicator, then rub into trim area. On porous surfaces, such as tires and rubber trim, allow Tire & Trim Guard Plus to dry without buffing. On hard, glossy surfaces, such as your wheels and chrome trim, buff dry to a high gloss shine.
