How to Test Toner Cartridge
- 1). Prepare a desk or workspace by placing paper towels on the top surface. Open the toner cartridge cover, and remove the toner cartridge from the printer. Place the toner face down on top of the paper towels.
- 2). Allow the toner cartridge to sit on the paper towels for at least 10 to 15 minutes, then lift the toner cartridge and look for any leaking toner powder. Replace the toner cartridge if it is leaking, since it could contaminate the entire paper path.
- 3). Place the toner cartridge back in the printer if it is not leaking. Print a test page to the printer. The procedure for printing a test page varies from model to model, so check your user guide for instructions. For many small printers, you can print a test page by holding the power button down for five to 10 seconds. If your printer has a control panel, click the "Menu" button, go to the "Information" menu and choose "Print Configuration."
- 4). Check the configuration page for a bar graph. This bar graph shows how much toner powder remains in the cartridge. Also, check the quality of the printout. Replace or refill the toner cartridge if the print quality is low.
